Bedside lamp

The bedside lamp is the last light turned on at the end of the day. Its light should be soft, directed downwards, and its switch accessible without having to sit up.

What is the right height for a bedside lamp?

The lampshade should be at shoulder height when you are sitting in bed, which is about 55 to 65 cm above the mattress, depending on the bedside table. Any higher, and the bulb enters your field of vision; any lower, and the light won't reach the pages of a book.

Table lamp or wall sconce?

A designer bedside lamp frees up space on the nightstand if it is compact, but it always takes up a bit of room. To save the entire surface, two wall sconces on either side of the bed serve the same purpose. This is also the best solution for small bedrooms where the nightstand is narrow.

What light temperature?

A warm light, around 2700 Kelvins, promotes falling asleep better than a neutral white. Models with adjustable intensity allow you to transition from comfortable reading to a very low night light at the end of the evening.
